Vande Bharat Express train v/s Vande Metro trains: While both train categories aim to reduce travel time, they cater to different requirements.
The introduction of Vande Bharat Express trains has significantly reduced travel time and provided a smoother journey experience across the nation. The addition of this semi-high-speed trains has transformed rail travel in India. Originally launched as Train 18 in 2019, these trains have become a game-changer for Indian Railways, connecting major cities in half the time.
Currently, over 82 Vande Bharat Express trains are operational, with plans for many more in the pipeline. Building on the success of these trains, Indian Railways is now set to introduce a new category of trains called – Vande Metro.
What is Vande Metro?
Vande Metro is a short-distance variant of the Vande Bharat Express trains, focusing on improving suburban travel in India. It aims to provide passengers with a rapid, shuttle-like experience at an affordable price. This network will connect 124 cities within a distance of approximately 100-250 kilometers, facilitating both inter-city and intra-city travel.
Difference between Vande Bharat Express vs Vande Metro
Route: While Vande Metro focuses on connecting major cities within a short distance, primarily benefiting students and job seekers, the Vande Bharat Express trains cover longer distances and connect multiple cities.
Frequency: Vande Metro trains will operate more frequently, shuttling back and forth between cities four or five times a day. Vande Bharat Express trains, designed for longer journeys, typically operate once or twice a day.
Size: Both trains can have a minimum of 12 coaches and up to 16, but their coach configurations differ. Vande Bharat Express trains offer comfortable seating for all passengers, while Vande Metro, as per multiple media reports, will have seats for 100 passengers and standing space for 180 passengers.
Speed: Vande Metro can reach a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour. Vande Bharat Express trains are faster, reaching speeds of up to 183 kilometers per hour.
